I've been a busy bee today (my mom caught the cleaning bug from the other day, so we've been tackling the monster known as the Hall Closet with his friend The Garage)! Just a quick, idly curious question though....
Does anyone out there eat foods they dislike because they're healthy?
(this stems from a dilemma I had about fifteen minutes ago over trying to find a snack. We really need to go grocery shopping)

2007 was a year of extreme ups and extreme downs for me. When I was happy, I was delighted. When I was unhappy, well.... Overall though, despite some losses and misunderstandings, this was a good year for me.
I don't really have any 'resolutions' to make this year. Just keep on with the progress I've been making in certain areas of my life.
... and learn how to cook!
Good luck, me!

Hope everyone out there has a wonderful one! ♥
For Christmas, my flu bug is finally vanishing and I'm keeping a kitten. I was also mightily spoiled with gifts from friends and family; I will endeavor to return the favor!

I knew I smelt smoke this morning on the wind.
It's not anywhere near me, thankfully, but they've evacuating people in the thousands again.

Ohhh my God. I haven't had a day this chock full of insanity in a while.
First, I had the Smiling Woman. She came up and was obviously a bit off- but a lot of our patrons are a bit "off" and so long as you treat them kindly, they don't give you any trouble. I renewed the books as she requested, which she thanked me for and then she stood there.
Smiling.
I asked her if she needed anything else and got a "You know, I--*stops. Smiles.*" Repeat this for about five minutes straight while I desperately prayed for another patron to come up and run her off. She appeared to be unable to speak in full sentences and kept starting and stopping and smiling. She finally left when another patron approached.
But she was nothing compared to the second guy, it turns out.
Since I was at the AV desk, I often turned partly away from the computer/front of the desk to clip the DVDs back into their special locking cases. I noticed out of the corner of my eye a man approach who prompted walked up and snatched up the pen resting on the keyboard. I thought this was rather rude but we get people borrowing our pens/pencils all the time so I didn't pay much more attention and returned to dealing with the DVDs. A few seconds passed and I glanced up again in time to see our pudgy pen thief attempting to carve into the back of his hand with my ballpoint pen. He wasn't quite able to draw blood but ooohhh, he was trying.
Not knowing what else to do, I leaned over, said "May I have that back?" and plucked the pen carefully out of his hand. Just as wordlessly as he'd appeared, he meandered off.
I threw the pen away.

I don't know why I'm on such a reading kick lately.... I think it must be the change in weather. Even though it doesn't get properly cold here (thank God!) or snowy or anything like that, it's definitely gotten a bit more chilly so that it's starting to feel like winter.
For this week, I've got-
Frankenstein
Droll Stories
Pride and Prejudice (still)
Book of Samson
I'm pretty darn sure that I've read the last one before as I was on big David Maine binge last year which is when Samson came out but... I don't remember it as clearly as The Fallen or the one about Noah so~
For a random request- does anyone know of an edition of Milton's Paradise Lost that doesn't have footnotes and the like littered all through it? =/ I don't think the edition with Dore's illustrations does but the library's copy of it is kept locked up.... *pondering how to get to it >_>;*

Thanks to the intense boredom of JURY DUTY, I finished Fire in the Blood, Madame Bovary, and Flaubert in Egypt. I haven't really been in the mood yet to pick up Pride and Pride and Prejudice, so I grabbed Love In The Time of Cholera at work yesterday but... eh. The story interests me, but I think I might be love/romance'd out at the moment and I'm not sure how I'm liking the writing style. I'll have to see if I can finish the first chapter and then go from there. Think if I end up deciding to not finish it, I'll pick up Frankenstein instead.
I also have Flaubert's short story collection to go through, but while I loved Bovary, I've got a feeling the shorter works will fall short compared to my feelings for Maupassant's ._.
In other news, I need to catch up on work this weekend. Hurray!

I've been on a bit of a book frenzy lately....
This week I've got :
Fire in the Blood
Madame Bovary
Flaubert in Egypt
Pride and Prejudice
The last one has been bothering me as I could swear I've read it before, likely during my school days, but I remember... very very very little about it. So I dragged the only in-house copy out of library storage and am now reading it again!
I still need to hunt down Murakami's After Dark. NO ONE HAS IT. WHY DOES NO ONE HAVE IT.

Currently surrounded but not yet in the thick of things. Just very spooked and packing to be on the safe side, as Carlsbad is now apparently under an evacuation warning.
ps - Honey has four kittens ♥ We've made plans to bring them with us, if we do have to leave.

Can't stay on long at all, but Honey, our local stray, has brought her kittens over. Or at least two of them.... One is a tabby, like she is, while the other is a smokey gray. Not sure if she has anymore survivors as right now she's taking a bit of a well-deserved nap after jumping that roughly 6ft wooden fence with a kitten in her mouth. Twice!
edit : She's arrived some hours ago with a wee calico. Three! ♥

I am so sick of feeling gross these past couple of weeks.... First it was a stomach virus and now it's moved upwards into my head. Just ick ick ick.
Aside that, life is going generally fine. Work is work, Honey (stray kitty who has been coming around) had her kittens though we don't know where, and I need to reply to e-mails and do some other work (a day late and a dollar short).
